Henry's Project Proposal: Transportation Data
Summary
I propose a website that collects data to track our transportation habits. The site will record different details about people’s daily transportation in order to find patterns and solutions. The ultimate goal of the site is to make transportation more efficient and energy saving by addressing the most frequently traveled routes and giving people visual data that informs them of the costs of their transportation.
Audience
I want the target audience for this site to be the people of Los Angeles. It’s a huge audience, so I would probably start with a few neighborhoods or even the USC student body and scale it from there. L.A. has a terrible transportation system, and most people commute by car, which is not only bad for the environment, but inefficient because of traffic. With detailed data on the transportation routes and habits of the Los Angeles people, we could visualize the areas where transportation is needed and create solutions.
Data
The site would be very comprehensive in its data collection. It will track the method, time, distance, start and end points, and frequency of transportation. Not only will the data be informative of issues in transportation, but it will inform users of the time, money, and energy they spend traveling. The site could also get data about if traffic was experienced or what routes were used.
